Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, Pinot Noir, Volnay 1er Cru, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France 2018

Terroir: Domaine Marquis d'Angerville also owns two plots in the Volnay Premier Cru appellation which total almost one hectare: Les Mitans (0.65 hectare) and Les Pitures (0.31 hectare). The wines from these two plots, admirably located, are blended to make a cuvée called Volnay Premier Cru, in which we sometimes also find the product of young vines from Têtes de Cuvée plots such as Clos des Ducs, Champans or Taillepieds. Les Mitans (our plot is located in the climat previously called en l'Ormeau), are located at the lower limit of the Premiers Crus of Volnay, in fairly deep soil. The soil of Les Pitures, adjacent to Clos des Ducs, at mid-slope, is marly limestone.

Wine: Compared to the Têtes de Cuvée, the Volnay Premier Cru offers greater precocity of aromas and a body-fruit balance ensuring its elegance. Its friendliness in its young years does not detract from its aging potential. It can easily be drunk young and can be kept for more than 10 years in a good cellar.
